Little Drummer Boy

Hanny has been asking for a drum set and drum sticks for the past six months. He likes to play the drums at church every week and is fascinated by the various sticks, hardware, cymbals and drums that make up the kit. When he started asking more often, my wife and I discussed getting toy drums, electronic drums or a real, scaled down acoustic set. After pricing the various options and clarifying what Hanny had in his mind, we set off to see Santa down at the Avalon Park Christmas Festival.
Hanny again repeated his desire for drum set and drum sticks. Even going to the toy section of Target and other stores did not sway him. So... Santa delivered, thanks in part to the contributions of Grandparents and other family members. Witness the awesome power of Hanny Awtrey and his red Ludwig drum set.
Even after two days, its not too bad. He only plays a few hours a day and wants me to play "Tom Sawyer" by Rush (his favorite rock song these days) on our media center so he can play along. He also has a rock and roll version of "Jesus Loves Me" that is all his own. Mostly he beats out a rough tempo, but I've been trying to get him to play "foot, foot, hand... foot, foot, hand..." to keep a straight rock beat. He actually played about eight bars, alternating his hands and feet! What a great little guy. We love our boy!
